Who We Are
Wrapped In Smoke is a family BBQ Competition & Catering team
made up of Chris Huffman (Pitmaster), his wife Jana (Clean Up Crew), his
daughters Victoria (Work Horse), Natalie (Go Getter)
and Melanie (All-Around Cheer Leader).
Wrapped In Smoke was formed in March 2011. Chris always loved
cooking and really loved being outside with his smokers. He has been cooking
since he was 7 y/o. He fell in love with BBQ when he was in high school. His
love for BBQ continued to grow as he got older. During this time he started
making his own rubs and sauces. He was really proud of his products and all of his
friends and family loved when he was cooking. He knew he had something
special when there were never any leftovers. In 2010, Chris started to research
BBQ comp's and was able to attend some with his BBQ buddies. He was hooked! He
started making plans to start his own team and see if he was really as good as
he thought he was. He sat his wife down and told her he wanted a bigger pull
behind pit and what his idea was. They both agreed that this would be fun. This
would give the family more time together and get the girls outside. They sat
down as a family and came up with the team name and started to plan this
journey as a family. They entered their first competition in April 2011. There
were 83 teams in the pit division and Wrapped In Smoke walked away with a 5th in
Chicken a 15th in Ribs and a 17th in Brisket. Now, the whole family was as
hooked as Chris was. They started off slow-cooking only local events and did
really good their first year. They placed in every competition that they entered
except for one. Wrapped In Smoked continued with their success in 2012. Wrapped
in Smoke was just named Reserve Grand Champion at the Taste of Mesquite
Cook-Off in April 2012. Chris also received a special service award for helping
the Mesquite Service League promote the
event.
